Writing has been missing from my life.  I have allowed health challenges to sap my strength and joys.  That must end today.  Touching base with Cheryl and her haibun, visiting Carpe Diem Haiku Ka, and the inspiration from those two let loose the muse.  Now to keep her/him/it near.

Strange how life has a way of taking one on unexpected adventures.  A man and his wife made a trip to North Dakota to celebrate an uncle's 50th wedding anniversary.  Caught in a late-winter snowstorm in South Dakota they inched along the two-lane road.  Her job was to attempt to keep the white line at the edge of the road in sight.  Let the husband know if he seemed to be veering too far in either direction.  Too close on the right they could slide into the ditch.  Too far to the left they could have a head-on collision.   The man's hands gripped the steering wheel for dear life.  Unable to see clearly beyond the hood of the car most of the time his body was a mass of tension.  Even though it was the middle of the day, headlights were needed.  Though the lights did little to help see in the blizzard conditions, maybe other drivers would see them.  Man and wife kept their eyes peeled watching for lights cast by other vehicles....

Sadness

Why am I feeling so sad?  I am taking my meds but I still feel a gloominess.  But, also, a genuine, deep  love of family and friends.  Feelings that so often stay buried beneath the dry, dead skin cells of my body.  Feelings that medications dull.  Dulled like a knife pulled across rocks.  Ragged metal edges good for little else than spreading butter instead of cutting meats and vegetables.  Worthless except for the ability to make folks smile.   I cannot get my gumption in place to finish any of tens of projects.  I only want to hide in books.  Showering feels good but I have to work hard to make myself do it.  Just like the rehab exercises that I put off.  Truth is pain lingers waiting to attack with the next wrong move.  I dread the pain that comes in various degrees.  Sunday night's 8 in my left leg.  Just laying on my left side was painful.  Food is used as a comfort.  But the comfort is ...

Awoke to the sunshine falling across my Hubby's face.  He was awake and ready to leave our bed.  It is Sunday, one of three days of the week I do not have a scheduled appointment.  Three days I transport Erica to her sister's home.  Tuesday morning is a 10:00 Stretch Lab session.  It is a morning I can turn over and return to sleep.   Surrounded by the warmth of the blanket is so simple to just slip back into a deep sleep.  It somehow feels like such an indulgence.  To be warm, comfortably surrounded by the softness of the mattress and pillow.  By turning away from the large window I can turn my back to the world for just a bit longer.  In sleep, I escape the obligations of life.  The war does not demand my concern.  Tension seeps out of my body.
